METRO light rail
opens in December 2008. It’s a new way to get to
work and school, to connect to Sky Harbor
Airport, and to discover the Valley’s best
shopping, arts and entertainment destinations.
Light rail will connect seamlessly with our
regional bus system and will feature new transit
centers and eight new park-and-ride areas. METRO
can carry more than 575 passengers in a
three-car train. METRO’s air conditioned
vehicles feature a no-step passenger entry,
large tinted windows, spaces for four
wheelchairs and bike racks for four bikes. The
vehicles and station platforms are fully
accessible.
METRO stations
feature shade structures designed to throw shade
at all times of the day. Other amenities include
artwork, trees and plants, benches and drinking
fountains, electronic display boards, security
cameras, emergency call boxes, fare machines and
bike racks. Eight stations include park-and-ride
areas, and seven stations are inside larger
transit centers, which feature multiple bus
connections and kiss-and-ride commuter drop-off
areas. Station names are the same as their
location.

Operating
hours and train frequency |
|
Hours and
frequency have not yet been determined,
but METRO is expected to operate roughly
20 hours per day, seven days a week.
Passengers will likely be able to catch
a train every 10 minutes during daytime
hours and every 20 minutes at other
times. For special events, METRO will
increase service frequency to
accommodate large crowds. |

Fares |

Light rail
and the bus system share the same fare
structure. It will cost the same to ride
METRO as it does to ride a local bus. A
light rail / bus pass can also be
upgraded to an Express / Rapid bus pass. |
